It says it is a rebuild for a 561 or 951. Could I damage my car by installing this if it is faulty? Mine is a 1990 240DL? The seller did not know if it worked or not. I am trying to troubleshoot poor idle problems. I did loads of maintenance to fix my bumbling idle - it has smoothed out considerably, but still bumbles when warm (when cold too, a little, but more so when nice and warmed up) I just replaced everything from the Cat back including the o2 sensor -

There is, on my 85 240 DL. A "air bleed screw" for the idel.(big black screw under the throtel body just in front of the idel set screw)
If I turn this screw inward than the idel is funky and all over the place. If I turn it out than the engine speeds up and smoths out.
It is not always an electric proplem. Have you cheacked there?

the screw you mention disappeared in 88. no idle adjustment on the 89-up cars. and so it goes, chuck.

It is not the idle adjustment I mention! it is a AIR BLEED SCREW for brake idle!!


My point was that maybe there is something wrong other than the ECU, wich is why I mentioned that my car was an 85.

You won't hurt your car. The worst it can do is Not Work.

This ECU should fix the problems with the original model 561 ECU.
The 951 is a direct replacement for it as well.
