I purchased a used rebuilt programma ecu on ebay 200 1990

It says it is a rebuild for a 561 or 951. Could I damage my car by installing this if it is faulty? Mine is a 1990 240DL? The seller did not know if it worked or not. I am trying to troubleshoot poor idle problems. I did loads of maintenance to fix my bumbling idle - it has smoothed out considerably, but still bumbles when warm (when cold too, a little, but more so when nice and warmed up) I just replaced everything from the Cat back including the o2 sensor -
