Further to 'a little encouragement . . .' 200

Thanks for all your help the other day guys when I, shamefully, started getting whiny on the "troubles" with my 240. The Borbet's didn't mount on the rear because of a horn like device designed to protect the gas tank in the event of an accident. The mechanic just shimmed it out a bit with a few washers, as per a brickboarders advice, and the problem was solved. As to my other woes, re starting and stalling (but only sometimes) he suspected a malfunctioning mass air sensor, and gave me a good one to install on the spot when my car acts up again. If it proves to be the sensor then I'll have to get one from somewhere. Not as bad as I was picturing in my mind . . . thanks again, Fred

There's a 240Volvo AMM on eBay (#7904757919) currently at ~$10 with 6 days to go and the seller seems to have very good feedback (99.9%). It's from an 86 (Bosch # 0 280 212 007) but perhaps the experts here can say if it's suitable for your 88.

Owning an older car gives you the opportunity to cruise the junkyards (Pick n Pull, Pick Your Part, etc) and cannibalize their inventory. Air Mass Meters are about $40-$50 at these places and are easy to remove with just a Phillips screwdriver and a 10mm open or box-end wrench. They add a premium for a return-and-exchange guarantee, but before you go for that, make sure they have another one that's exactly what you need (check for the Bosch part No. on the device). Look for engine and electronic parts from a car with body damage as the reason it was junked. If the car has a straight body - well, it may have been scrapped because of a bad AMM!
