240 wipers out 200 1986

'86 245 W/203KMis

I rebuilt the wiper motor - wipers worked once. No voltage at motor connector. Switch on column appears to be OK, but can't guarantee because I don't have a schematic. Understand there is a relay for the intermittent wiper function. Where is it? The relays I find near the driver's footwell are for the rear defogger and the headlights. Also, I assume that the same color leads that are at the switch will also be at the relay ... correct? Can I verify relay function w/a multimeter? What should I look for?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

According to my wiring diagram:

fed from fuse 2, a yellow wire goes to the motor directly, for the "Park" circuit of the wipers, and another yellow goes to the relay and splits to go to the switch. A White-Black wire runs from the relay to the motor as well, which I assume is the power to start the motor for the intermittent sweep.

Check that you've got 12V on all your yellow wires and resolve that first. Then, the wiper motor grounds are a notorious failure point. Try adding a ground wire from the wiper motor case to a screw on the body- the rubber mountings effectively isolate the motor and the ground brass tab under it can break off.

I don't know off hand where the relay is but I thought it was in the area of the firewall, driver's side, up above the pedals.
