Someone gont a pretty good deal! 120-130

I had to physically restrain myself from bidding on that. Neat car with a lot of potential. (Replace grille with stock in chrome or black, replace rear bumper, replace mirrors, finish interior,...)

That aluminum Buick V8 (predecessor to the ubiquitous British Leyland 3.5L V8 that went in almost EVERYTHING British at some point or another, and only recently ceased production in Land Rover Disocvery's) might even weigh less than the B18 it replaced.

Indeed... sounds like someone did some pretty decent work on that thing mechanically... I'd definitely be doing some cosmetic work... I don't really mind the grilles on the thing, but the rear bumper would have to be replaced with original... And get the paint code and get a new hood painted for it. I don't mind louvres, but they coulda done a nice pattern than a square in the middle...

And the clip type hood latches would have to go as well. Wish he'd have included pictures of the tatty interior.

I bet the thing gets out of its own way though. Would surely be fun to go for a spin I'm sure..

Those louvres in the hood sure look ugly, and the shaved trunk looks out of place with all of the rest of the trim still on. That rear bumper looks ridiculous. You need to be a damn good stylist to improve upon the looks of a stock 122, and this one was a miss. At least he improved the performance.

Hey Mario!

Indeed, the styling of a 122 is right on the money. I prefer wagons 10 to 1 tho'.

I am keeping all my chrome, except the hood, which was shaved when I got it. Found a complete "Yankee" bar last weekend for big bad driving lights. Missed two genny roof racks on E-Bay in the last month. May just have to use my Yakima for the cedar strip canoe instead.

Different strokes for different folks I guess! For my life style, I go for the rally car thing. Got genny mud flaps on the way since I live about 6 miles up a forest service road. Oh yeah I have a 300 foot long, rough, unpaved, 15% grade, driveway too and am fitting 6000 lb winch behind the front bumper.

Man, that power might be very cool though. Hang the rear end out and go.

Cheers

Do you own a wagon or a sedan? Were the racks you saw for a sedan?? I have never seen the sedan racks available before, if only I had more money.

Are you going to fit the winch behind the grilles?? That extra weight up front sure won't help your rally car handling.

Mario

They were wagon racks. One was an original Volvo rack (mostly looks) and the other was like an older VW bus type rack (steel tubing with oak slats, industrial strength!!!).

You are correct on the winch... the size makes placement a nearly unsolvable problem without major mods. Weight is not really bad, but, all in all, probably not worth pursuing, I can always park at the top of the hill and either walk or use the quad runner when I have groceries, etc.

Cheers

Agreed, JohnMC!!!

Can you say scalded cat? Looks like it could be a thrill minute. Yeah i think the aluminum V8s are well under 300 lbs, as I recall, all up, and 200hp is pretty easy to get!

Glad I didn't see it, I have shortage of self control this week anyway!

Cheers

Mike

I have seen a reputable weight of 230 Kg on a Rover v8 site... 530#?

Mike!

I bid on it but got out bid. I called the guy about the reck and pinion steering. He said it is a Volvo unit. He had it put in and did not know the model it was from. No rust. All the cosmetic things would have been easy to fix except the hood loovers. Well I owned for a second or two anyway!
I thought of rack and pinion for my 122. It would sure allow for more room next to the engine and not so much play.

Not necessarily, depends on the installation method and configuration of the R&P. Would give a nice, direct feel, though.
