I just got back up to nineteen Volvos. Guy had what he says is a '76 265GLE. I looked at it and it's got 4 small round headlights and a fuel injected V6 (B27?). Paint and interior are rough and it's not running, but theres 4 pretty clean Virgos on it so I figure I got my $150 worth right there. This is a horrible motor right? There's no sense in putting a hundred bucks into trying to get it running, is there? Even though I've been reading here for several years, I don't recall too many posts about the early V-6 motors. Looks like I got one more car for the Volvo farm.

Wow, 19 Volvo's!? Man thats great!

About the B27F....hmmmm....not good. I got a 76 262 GL a couple of years ago w/166,800 miles and didn't know anything about that engine. I wanted to put some $ into it and make the car a daily driver because it was a pretty unique Volvo, but after replacing the distributor cap and wires......boy, I wish it was easier.
I was told not to waste my time with it by many people and then guys on the brickboard said it can be saved if maintained properly and I wish it was. But it wasnt. So I junked it.

It is really a neat engine and hopefully yours can be saved.

Have fun,

Adrian

The odometer on this one says something like 230K miles. It sounds amazing that it was even running at all with that milage. Maybe the guy who put the Virgos on it loved it enough to change the oil regularly but I think it's days of moving under it's own power are over. I've got enough projects without needing to fool with a PRV motor.

Thanks for all the replies!

THe PRV V6's can be good motors as long as the oil has been changed on time and the car has never been over-heated. My 79 262C has 160K and I know the car has been driven like S*#T but it still runs strong in Southern CA bumper-to-bumper traffic. My 79 264GL is on its second PRV and running good so far. Click on the following link for a good past post regarding the PRV engines: PRV Engine Post . I would take a look at the cams and the engine over all to see if it is something simple that can be fixed in order to make the car run. Compared to my 84 245DL I feel that the V6 is a lot smoother and thus enjoy driving it every chance I get. I personally would love to get my hands on a 265GL to complete my hat trick. You are one lucky man with all those Volvo's. Good Luck with the 265GL!

Sincerely,

pull the valve covers off and look at the cams. if they are worn, have at it with reckless abandon-parts, junk, whatever. if ok, then maybe try to drive it. they are good motors when right. they are tricky to maintain properly and repair; ie, head gaskets, timing chains, etc. some people insist the 265 is the first suv. good luck, chuck.
