how tight is the brake booster check valve supposed to be? tight...or a bit loose. 200

on my 82 kjet car the brake booster check valve is seemingly loose. I am able to move it around significantly but there doesn't seem to be any sort of vac leak at the junction?

i'm currently trying to chase down a rough idle

It's in a rubber gromment so it's movable. You can try disconnecting the hose and plugging the hose for a test.

yeah...i doubt the idle is related to the check valve...it makes no difference whether my foot is on the brake or not..

will definately check it out

thanks for the info

I also have a k-jet car that had rough idle issues. As you know in the old injection systems that after warm-up there are few things that can cause idle issues. If you have resolved all the ignition system issues such as plugs, rotor, distributer cap, wires and such. Then make sure the car is breathing well, if so, then it could be vacuum. Check the primary hose that runs from your brake booster to the vaccumm chamber. Even a small break in this line can cause rough idle. You will notice another small check valve at the chamber remove that and make sure it is functioning properly.

If you find problems replace the hose, and both check valves. Available over the counter at any autoparts chain store. If this fails then move on to fuel/air delivery systems.

yeah..i've looked it all over...can't seem to find any vacuum leaks. I've checked using both my eyes and also carb cleaner...the vac system seems really tight. I've cleaned the tb, the air flow sensor, and plugs, rotor, cap, o2, plug wires...almost everything is new.

it may be old and worn out injectors...

It may be useful to find if one cylinder is the problem. You can start the engine with one plug wire at a time pulled and grounded. Also maybe inspecting the plug tips after a prolonged idle.
