Help! A/C compressor wires?? 200 1989

Oh, Oh! I have been learning all about a/c, have all the equip. and am ready to vacumn and recharge. 89 240 129K

I notice the blue wire on my compressor with the little square end is not plugged to anything. Wonder what it does?

Also there is a line of wires, green, red, and yellow hanging about by the rear of the compressor that look like they come off a harness running in the a/c compressor hose plastic sleeve. They come out of a harness by the tranny dipstick and they have a modern fuse link among them.

I imagine this some kind of cut off. Could this ruin the compressor or clutch by not being hooked up? I know the blue line off the compressor should be plugged somewhere. Is all lost? I was all set to recharge and gas up, bought guages, borrowed a pump, now what???

Help Please!

Help! A/C compressor wires?? 200 1989

If your '89 is anything like my '88, there is only one wire going to the compressor. It is a green wire that operates the electric clutch to start pumping. The wire originates through the fire wall and pops out of a harness right behind the compressor, with a cylindrical plastic fitting. However, the wire doesn't go immediately to the compressor, it should attach to another green wire going back into a sleeve heading across the bumper to the reciever/dryer pressure switch. Then the wire returns via the bumper and pops out at the compressor with another cylindrical plastic connector. Now it connects the the compressor. There are no other A/C related wires that I know of in the engine compartment (unless you have an aux. pusher fan).
Maybe your year car has a low pressure sensor in front of the compressor?
