Fuel Gauge Not Working 900 1995

Good Evening, I filled the tank and shows full. Today I looked at the gauge shows empty, at first I thought someone has sucked the gas out, but when I went to gas station, it took in only about 5 gallons and the gauge shows half full. Has anyone had the same experience, and if so what is the solution. Any feed back would be appreciated.
Regards, nyjahan.

Hello to you all.
Thanks for all your responses. I will give the Techron a try and if no good result, I see if I can get the Fuel Sending unit separately from FCPGroton. Thank s again.

Dear Nyjahan,

May this find you well. As suggested in a prior post, the fuel send unit may be the cause of the erratic performance. Fuel send units can get "gummed up" because of "impurities" in gasoline that coat working surfaces, making them sticky.

You may restore proper gauge function, by adding a fuel system cleaner, e.g., Mobil Techron. This product is available at Wal-Mart's and auto supply stores for $5.97/bottle (or thereabouts). Add one 12-ounce bottle/tank at 1,500-mile intervals. If you so use two bottles, it may help. It will certainly do no harm.

The fuel pump and send unit are costly parts. If a two bottles of Techron restore gauge function, it's money well spent. Techron will also remove gummy residues from all fuel system surfaces.

Yours faithfully,

spook

It could just be the gauge, or the worst scenario, the fuel-sending unit in the tank. My fuel gauge works fine in warm climate, but barely moves in cold weather. I just refill the tank every 300 miles. I was told the fuel-sending unit and the fuel pump were an integrated part and was quite expensive to replace.

The fuel pump and sending unit for the 960 are available seperately from FCP Groton. In fact I am in the middle of changing the sending unit on our 95 960 as we speak.

Fuel Gauge Not Working 900 1995

Hi, I have a '93 940 with the "lazy" fuel gauge. It sounds like the sending unit. Can I get that separately for the 940? The gauge will show empty way too early and then anly take in 13 gallons (I believe the tank is a 18 or 19 gallon capacity). After fill-up it takes almost 10 minutes for the gauge to show full. Are these sending units serviceable? Can they be safely removed, cleaned and replaced?

Thanks.

You might try thumping the dash. Sometimes the gauges get stuck in the E or off position.
