Fuel Gauge Not Working 900 1995

Dear Nyjahan,

May this find you well. As suggested in a prior post, the fuel send unit may be the cause of the erratic performance. Fuel send units can get "gummed up" because of "impurities" in gasoline that coat working surfaces, making them sticky.

You may restore proper gauge function, by adding a fuel system cleaner, e.g., Mobil Techron. This product is available at Wal-Mart's and auto supply stores for $5.97/bottle (or thereabouts). Add one 12-ounce bottle/tank at 1,500-mile intervals. If you so use two bottles, it may help. It will certainly do no harm.

The fuel pump and send unit are costly parts. If a two bottles of Techron restore gauge function, it's money well spent. Techron will also remove gummy residues from all fuel system surfaces.

Yours faithfully,

spook
