Rebuilding the front suspension 700 1988

Hello

My front suspension is all rusted up and the bushings look like the previous owner drove the car through acid to and from work.

When im driving the steering wheel shakes like it's of it's meds and the car drags to the right. And when i park my wheels never point the same way, one of them is always a bit of.

So i was thinking to replace the whole thing, new bushings and new ball joints and such. From what i understand it would suffice to replace it all, torque the bolts to what's appropriate and then turn it in for wheel alignment?

If that supposedly does the trick would i have to redo the alignment if/when i change springs and absorbers?

Im grateful for any help i can get guys.

I would go ahead & replace the strut inserts (shocks) while everything is apart. You probably can reuse the springs if not rusted too bad. I would change the upper strut mounts & bearings also. For the front strut rod ( radius rod) bushings there are various levels of hardess available. The originals were too soft so Volvo came out with a stiffer longer lasting version. I would use these. The rear strut rod bushings are very tough & probably are okay...check for slop. Don't forget to check your wheel bearings also, an important source of front end play.
After you replace everything & get it aligned it will feel like new again!

    Have fun!

    yes? 700 1988

If you yank the front struts at a later data, then yes, technically you will have to realign the front end. However, I suppose if you are very careful and scribe the top two bolt holes of the strut mounts, then you can replace and reinstall them without much change in the alignment.

However, if you're going to redo the front susp, why not just do the struts at the same time??
