Kjet, no spray from injector when cranking 200 1979

I gave up trying to fix this car about a year ago. Just put everything back on today, and of course, no start

I remember trying most everything to get it started, fuel realy, checking for spark, timing belt.

There is some fuel coming back the return line when cranking (unhooked the connection), but just a dribble, and no spray from injector at #1.

Do fuel pumps just go partly bad sometimes?

I probably just need to send this in to a shop. I would scrap it, but it has new bushings and shocks all around. with new exhaust system. so would like to get it running again.

thanks in advance
-Bruce

hi there do you have ample fuel flow on the inlet side of the fuel filter? should shoot out very fast and spray all around the banjo bolt if you jumper the fuel pumps.

I seem to remember something about this from last summer or spring.

You could get a dribble and not much more if only the transfer pump was operating. Can you check your main pump is getting full voltage? Worth probing the wire under the seat or at the FP relay. That's where I'd start.

This is, with the help of information, by far easier to fix than bushings and suspension.

just shot some starting fluid down the opening for injector number 1, and then put the injector back on.

cylinder one did fire up for a brief second.

      so, there is hope.

If it has been sitting a long time, I wonder if the plunger in the fuel distributor under the airflow meter hasn't become stuck in varnish. You could test by removing an injector, putting it in a jar and running the fuel pumps only, bypassing the fuel pump relay, just like you do to test spray pattern. Lifting the plate should get you a squirt.

If the big pot-bellied hose between the airflow meter and throttle is in place properly, the cranking should lift the plate. If not, and it is free, I might check the compression and squirt a bit of oil - maybe half a teaspoon - in each spark plug hole, based on the year's storage.

thanks, yes, I put some oil in each cylinder.

The car had all these condtions before the year layoff. I'm going to throw on a known working fuel pump tomorrow.

Last year, I actually changed the entire Kjet system, from one of my then running parts cars. The previous plunger was very sluggish, took about 2 to 3 seconds to drop.

Sure is fun, getting that rubber boot on, between the throttle body and airflow meter.

thanks for all of the advice.

I certainly remember feeling the main pump work, and also plenty of fuel came out when I disconnected the connection at the fuel filter.

Well, I have some extra money now, so I might give in and send it out to have it looked at.

Ive just got to face the fact, I'm good at bolting and unbolting stuff, but not much more than that.

One last attempt, If I have spark, and timing belt hasn't jumped, would spraying started fluid in wher the cold start injector is possibly give the car a brief startup?

      thanks

      -Bruce

If you're going to use starter fluid like Aerostart or equivlant, you can just unhook the airhose from the filter box and give it a squirt down there.
