recirculate actuator stock closed 200

Pretty sure I have a leak in the recirculate air vacuum actuator valve. It seems to repair this the whole heater unit needs to be removed. In an earlier post I read about using a tennis ball to open the shutter. Just wondering how and where this is done from.

To stop the vac leak press the Rec button in.
To close the flap with a tennis ball or other suitable object take the passenger side, side panel off the center console. If you put your hand behind the heater unit you should be able to feel the open flap. To close it you push it toward the heater. You can jam a tennis ball between it and the firewall to keep it closed. The fresh air duct opens when you close this (its the other end of the flap).

Jessie,

thanks for the response. what your saying makes sense especially after I got to check out a 240 that was completely stripped today. defintely not work fixing at this point as the whole heater assembly needs to come out to fix it. it looks like some kind of cable could be used to open and close the flap but I'll probably end up using the tennis ball for now. In my owners manual Volvo says to always use fresh air for heating even in winter and to only use recirculated air for extra cooling when using AC.
