Brake rotor and pads question... 200 1990

I re-did my front pads and rotors and used mintex pads and brembo rotirs and i am extremely happy with the upgrade, of course i could not prove i was upgrading from stock pads, but i am happy with my new set.

Brake rotor and pads question... 200 1990

I have heard good things about PBR Deluxe pads with Brembo rotors. If you want to go the cheap route, I went to Autozone last week. I bought new front and back rotors (mine were solid, not vented on the front) for $32.99 a piece for the front and 22.99 a piece for the rear and they gave me two Brembos for the front so I couldn't complain. The pads were just run-of-the mill stuff, Albany was the brand I think, but they do the trick and were only $11.99 a set. All total, I got new rotors and pads all the way around for just over $136. The local Volvo guy quoted me $180 to do a brake job on the front axle and $110 for the rear, which I assume would not have included new rotors, so I think I came out OK.

I polled the board about 240 pads a few weeks ago. See the following thread for responses:

There was a lot of support for the PBR Deluxe pads. Based upon these responses, I purchased front/rear sets of ATE rotors and PBR Deluxe pads for our 1988 240GL. I'm going to do the brake job this weekend and will report back on how the new brakes feel.

If you really wnat to reproduce the original stopping power, get Volvo parts.
Otherwise, go for the cheapest softest organic pads out there, like AutoZone for $12, and OEM discs (soft). They are closely matched with the Volvo OEM pads. PBR are not worth the extra $'s and are too hard to match with the OEM discs, they should be used with correspondingly harder discs, like ATE powerslot's.
Most people get sold on the PBR for low dust, but don't sacrifice stopping power for the look of your wheel after a few weeks.
