Dash Pad Speakers 900

Can the Dash Pad Speakers be replaced ('92 940)? They are molded to the cover.
Crutchfield doesn't supply them.

Well I'm going to replace the 51/4" door speakers anyway. If get a set of dash speakers from another car, then I'll try to modify that set.

For your door speakers, I'm pretty srue they are low profile. Check with Crutchfield to see which speakers fit before you buy anything. When I was looking for my '93 945T, there were only two or three that would fit (I ended up just staying with the stock speakers, they handle my aftermarket Alpine fine).

Not easily. I'd look into putting speakers in the front doors instead - '91 and earlier had 5-1/4" mounted behind the grill. They cheaped out in '92.

Otherwise it's a matter of cutting up the dash speaker and mounting say a 3-1/2" on the existing grill, or a piece of hardboard or something in the shape of the opening. Still, don't expect much decent sound - the size and placement simply isn't optimal.

I have a 95 940 wagon and the book says not to be replace by any other than the original.

The speaker part in mine is separateable from the grille. I think the speaker is six Ohms and it will be important that the replacement is of similar impedance to the original.

The other important point is that they have a series capacitor I think mine is 3.3 uF and it will have to be of the bipolar / non-polarised type. You would be better off to replace the capacitor than re-use the old one.

The panel in my car looks like it cane take a tweeter of 80mm. If your panel is different to mine maybe you could get a pair second hand.

Best wishes,

Chris
