92 240 ac/ R134 low port fitting not quick connect--how to get freon in? 200

more confusion with this 92 245 accumulator. (i retrofitted my 86 245 with the volvo kit and the quick connect works fine).

the 92 has r134 but the service port is certainly too big for an r12 connector, and my quick-connect r134 fitting does not fit the currenct port connector.

it looks like it is a screw-on type fitting, but i've never seen a screw-on fitting for r134.

has anyone seen an r134 screw-on type fitting before?
is this a proprietary fitting--volvo?
can i get this fitting somewhere?
does anyone recommend to replace the accumulator with an accum w/ a quick-connect fitting?

& thanks to Chris H. who knows his a/c stuff.

thanks again & again,

Bob is right, that is an R12 fitting.

Byron -

Was your brick converted to R134a, or was it stock? If stock, it may be designed for refrigerant to be added on the high pressure side using the system that an a/c shop (but not a DIY) would have.

If the port on the compressor is still an R12 port, you may be able to get a convertor at an AutoZone or other high-tech type place.

If you are near the west side of Houston, check with Performance Volvo on Sherwood Forest, or call John at VPI independent parts, 713-522-0505.

Good Luck,

Bob

Bob,
I was reading bb to see if there were any instructions on how to install an 86-89 cruise control kit.

I saw your reply on bb saying that you had a set of instructions. Would you be able to make a copy and send it to me? I will pay for all costs.

i'm in houston & I just bought one on ebay, but without the stalk--i'll pick that up from the junk yard.

regards,
byron

thanks Bob, yes, i'm in sugar land. vpi is just down the road at their new location from hwy 6 & park 10. i'll check with them & performance volvo is close by also.

i bought the car 2 weeks ago--it was r12 but the previous owner told me it was converted to r134, later. there are volvo receipts for r12 but none for the r134.

i tried some r134 fittings but they were all too small.

thanks much for the references.

regards,
byron

If they used the volvo kit when they converted it, it didn't come with a low side adapter. You can buy one for about $7 at most parts stores or even wally world sometimes. Make sure you get a low side adapter for a standard r12 fitting ( a 90deg fitting may be handy there).
