Hi Everyone,

My '93 960's reverse lights don't work. They've been this way since I bought the car. All wiring and bulbs appear OK. Is there a switch on the transmission that controls these lights?

Yes. It is the "PNP" switch. Just had to replace mine last week. In addition to telling the ECUs wheather it is in the Park, Neutral Position for starting safety it has the back-up light switch function and also tells the transmission ECU which gear position is selected.

The part is about $100 and it took me about 2.5 hours to change with my car sitting on ramps and jack stands.

On your '93 the exhaust system may be so close that it has to be loosened and moved to replace the switch. On my '96 I had to disconnect and move the transmission oil cooler return line.

Thanks for the quick reply. My aunt's '93 960 had to have the PNP switch replaced last year. The repair shop charged her $240 to do it. I think that I'll replace mine myself. Are there any special tools needed to remove the switch?

Another question that I have: My car needs the timing belt changed. It has 70 K on it. Should I take it in to the dealer for this? I know that I should change it soon to avoid ruining the engine. My 740 16 valve also needs one soon.
