Rough Idle Only When Warm 200

I have a rough idle problem that started about a week ago. I have since replaced the accordion hose (it had several small holes on the inside (away from the strut tower)). I have also tried to finad any other vacuum leaks with no luck. The problem only seems to occur when the car is nice and toasty warm -after about 30 minutes of driving. I unplegged the AMM and the only difference I could tell was the light on the dash started blinking. I suspect the AMM is starting to fail (maybe because of the 5-6 small (pinhole size) holes I found in the accordion hose. I checked the FAQ. That's the only thing I can figure.

Any help or comments are greatly appreciated.

Todd :-)

You didn't say which brick you are having the problem with. The '90 has the 016 AMM and the '88 has an 007. But it doesn't sound like an AMM problem to me.

When my '89 had that symptom, it turned out to be my oxygen sensor. See if it runs better with the O2 sensor unplugged. If it's your '90, check for codes on the OBD box.

Replace the thermostat in the air filter box so the engine can breathe cool air as it's supposed to. If that's stuck over to the "warm" side, it could be frying the AMM too. It may already be dying from what you describe. Some cars will run ok with it off or disconnected, but that often means it's bad or going bad. I was able to get a good used one for a friend's 1990 245 this summer for $75. The unit you have is the "016" part (last 3 digits of the part number). If you decide to get one, avoid rebuilts. New Bosch, or good used only.

You're on the right track, though you might need more work on vacuum leaks, such as an intake manifold gasket, and/or fuel injector seals.

Good luck!
