Power steering leak 200 1982

Just wondering if I have to fix my power steering leak. I am a student and really would rather not spend the money. I definitly dont mind the extra effort that it will take to steer. I have an '82 turbo with the pump-reservior integrated assembly, and the leak is from the hose that attaches lower on the pump. Is that the cheaper hose? I'm not sure but I think there are to different hoses and one is much cheaper. I guess my primary question though is whether or not I will burn up the rack by not keeping the reservior filled.

Thanks, Nick

The lower hose is the high pressure one - the genuine Volvo replacement will cost you a month's rent.

Basic tools are all that's needed to remove it, take it to a hydraulic repair shop (Yellow Pages, or phone a construction equipment Co. and ask them) and have them make up a replacement using your connections.

Either fix it or keep topping up fluid. As others said, running a dry rack will soon be big $$$.

I wouldn't recommend operating a power steering rack without fluid for an extended amount of time. They are not intended to be operated without hydraulic pressure and doing such will likely wear out the internals quickly.

buying the hose, which ever it is, will be cheaper than either the pump or the rack. let it go long enough, you might need both. good luck, chuck.
