Power steering leak 200 1982

Just wondering if I have to fix my power steering leak. I am a student and really would rather not spend the money. I definitly dont mind the extra effort that it will take to steer. I have an '82 turbo with the pump-reservior integrated assembly, and the leak is from the hose that attaches lower on the pump. Is that the cheaper hose? I'm not sure but I think there are to different hoses and one is much cheaper. I guess my primary question though is whether or not I will burn up the rack by not keeping the reservior filled.

Thanks, Nick
