alternator fixed, forgot where the wires go 200 1981

Have had charging problems. Took off my alt. today, took it to local auto electric shop, $20 for new brushes... charges like a champ all 3 phases @ 50 amp load. Everyone should do this BEFORE replacing a perfectly good alternator. This one is ridiculously dirty (apparently irrelevant) and I was ready to get another one (totally unnecessary).

I also replaced some rotted out wire: cut, soldered on new wire and spades. The one to the alternator and the sensor by it (what is that?). Also the double wire to a pierburg thing (not carb) and a single wire to the starter.

Initially, no start, wild light show on the dash at rpm rate. Switched pierburg/starter wires, started. However, it doesn't run well, temp gauge is pinned, no fuel gauge reading, strong battery idiot light or oil idiot light depending on if I switch the alternator/sensor cables. I think I'm screwed, notwithstanding the now good charging. Any ideas much appreciated.

Tsk, Tsk. You replaced/pulled wires without properly labelling or color coding them?

The oil sensor takes the blk wire, the alt takes the red. (Or did you replace the different colored wires with a single color?)

The "pieburg thing" may be the bypass solonoid which sits on the manifold after the carb and is energized while the engine is running (key in II position).

Haynes manuals are available from Canadian Tire for $19.95. There's a section dedicated to carbs.

yup: first time yanking a bunch of wires (I do have the Haynes). The posted pics are a _lot_ clearer. I replaced with a single colour (not proud of this).

I have service manuals from "Skip" (ebay) coming on the carb/engine.
