alternator fixed forgot wires part 2 200 1981

Everything normal now except temp gauge is pinned and there is smoke from under the dash!

The cable to the starter needed insulating, the alternator ground wasn't firm. Got the oil sensor/alt cables right, replaced fuse 8 and 13. Thanks to all.

Where is the temp sensor in the engine, and can I just disable it at the dash? It obviously caused the 8 fuse to go.

Don't disable the temp sensor, find the short and fix it. You cannot drive a car with no temp gauge, otherwise when you get a leak in a radiator hose, the first warning sign will be when your motor siezes. It's not worth risking destroying an engine, just to stop a fuse from blowing.

thanks. I had its wire on the starter; I didn't keep track of them. The gauge is probably damaged (smoke and all) but it does still report; level is a lot higher now which either means I wrecked it or it was lying before. It's the one I look at the most, since these Canadian wagons have no volt/ammeter or tachometer/oil pressure.
