instrument panel dies? 200 1992

I'd guess the battery is on it's last legs.

With a voltmeter, measure the voltage across the battery with the car off. You should get about 12 volts.

With the car running, you should get about 14. 13.5 is okay, but 14 is ideal.

If you get a jump, and you only get about 11 volts across the battery while the car is running, your alt isn't charging.

If the battery shows anything less then 11.5 volts (or so) when the car is off, but shows 13 volts while the car is running, your battery is dead.

Good luck!
