what's that buzz?? 900

I remember reading a post about a buzzing fuel pump.
My fuel pump relay buzzes. It started when the fuel pipe was changed,
at that point it was rocked a little and stopped.
Now the thing won't stop, and the led glows.
It has stahling accompanied like it's not getting the gas.
Could this just be a bad relay?
It was replaced in September.
If so, FCP would be so kind as to take it back.
The fuel filter was replaced in July.

A faulty relay could buzz.

But the usual reason for any buzzing automotive relay is a poor connection in the wiring that powers the circuit the relay is controlling. What makes it buzz is a cycle created when the poor connection provides enough power to run the coil of the relay to pull it in, but then fails when it needs to provide enough power to run the load supplied through its contacts.

I'm not sure how the 940T gets power to the FI relay and what the weak spots are in its fuse panel and feed from the battery. In a 240 with LH injection, a weak spot is a blade fuse under the hood. Perhaps a 940T has a similar problem with crimped lugs in or on the back of the fuse panel.

Thanks Art,

Is there anyone else with a 940T that knows where the blade fuse or what the weak spots arefor the fuel pump/injector relay?

Hmmm. I was thinking you'd be deluged by knowledgable responses. Maybe all the experienced ones are out driving their T's today.

Actually, I don't think this part of the circuit is specific to the turbocharged 940, or even the 900 series. I believe it may be the same throughout 700/900 Volvos with Bosch in B230 motors. I guessed someone would suggest looking carefully at the connectors in the relay socket panel for signs of heating, burning or looseness, as alluded to in 700/900 FAQs on relays, etc .

But there may be other points of interest too, if you've had a history of trouble with this relay. And I would be the last person to suggest a new part, especially an injection relay, was good just because it is young. In fact, because of the known problem with the solder joints internally, I've claimed resoldered relays are more reliable than new.

I think I'd pull that fuse/relay panel and examine it, but I cannot firmly recommend that to someone else without personal experience. There's only one 940 in our fleet and I've yet to do more than just resolder the fuel injection relay as a preventive measure when it was first acquired.

Someone will pipe up soon, I'm sure.

I remembered I had the old relay. So I replaced the new one and by that time from cranking the new bad one the battery was dead.
So I got a jump with the old relay and it started up fine.
Does the fuse /relay panel pull out?
It must be the relay.
Thanks for your help.
