1993 940 Radio Wire Colors. 900

Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have the correct Radio wire colors for a 1993 940? I have a new radio that I want to install. The Repair manual that I have is European and the colors do not match. The one from gwenelf does not help either. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

The one from gwenelf is correct, at least it was for my '93 945T. But if you want to make life a little more simple, just pick up a wiring harness from your local install shop for ~ $15 or $16 (or from Crutchfield for $20 plus shipping).

Your harness will have the wires identified, and your radio will have it's wires identified, just connect them.

The harness will have two parts, one plugs into the connector going into the amp, the other plugs into the connector behind the radio. You might have to extend the wires from the amp portion to get them to the back of the radio.

I can fax a copy of the wiring diagram from the repair manual if you like.

1993 940 Radio Wire Colors. 900

Coincidentally I just did my 94 940 radio yesterday.
The front speakers were left white and right green.
The rear was left grey and right purple.
Each wire pair has negative wire marked with a black stripe. The positive is solid. Be sure to be consistent with these.

The red wire is switched power, the black goes to chassis ground, yellow goes to battery. The blue wire goes to the power antenna. Orange is for radio illumination and probably not needed.

My car has door and dash speakers in the front. I paired the wires together from the radio to run these.

I bought a pair of cables from crutchfield (actually I got them free, another story) and it really made the connection by-passing the amp much easier to deal with.

Good luck.

Mike
