High Idle Speed II 200 1988

(See High Idle Speed post below from 11/23)

Worked on Son's 88 245 DL; cleaned throttle body, which needed it. Reassembled and idle is now around 1050 - 1100 rpm in Park; about 900 in Drive. This is acceptable though the idle in Park seems a tad bit high. Next step I would guess is adjust the throttle position switch?

Also did a check and diagnostic for leaky gaskets and vacuum hoses; did not find any. WD40 spray around the intake manifold gasket resulted in no change in idle speed.

Thanks for the posts,

Robert

If, when you turn on the A/C, the idle picks up (I believe you mentioned this in your original post), the TPS is functioning properly, as the ECU will only increase idle speed when it gets the "closed throttle" signal from the TPS. Check and adjust if you wish, but it sounds like it's OK.

Have you cleaned the IAC? Perhaps it isn't closing far enough to get idle speed down to spec.

Yes the a/c "on" does increase the idle, I will assume the TPS is functioning.

I'll check the IAC, it may require cleaning or replacement.

      Thanks!

      Robert
