The carpet is wet on my 240.....I could use some advice. 200

Woops.........sorry about that....Im new. I am in the process of buying a used 89 240 GL. I posted below with various questions. Thanks for all responses. I now have another question. It appears that the carpet is wet on the drivers side under the pedals. There is a small amount of rust right where the hood meets the windshield on the drivers side. It has been treated with epoxy, but perhaps water is still getting in. The floorboards look OK, but I was wondering if it is a common problem, or if it is a very bad sign. Any thoughts as to what to look for? Is this kind of thing a deal breaker? The rest of the car is real clean. The only reason I checked the area was due to something I read on Brickboard. Any advice is appreciated.
D.

I agree that the rust at the corner of the windshield is the likely culprit here. A first-class repair will require removal of the windshield, sheet metal repair, and replacement of the glass, although you may be able to get by with applying RTV at both the glass/gasket and gasket/body interfaces.

It's worth noting that there are other common causes of wet floor syndrome in 240s. You might review:

Hello Dave,

I use a good product: 3MJ Auto Glass Resealant, p/n 08364. it comes in a caulking style tube. i bought 2 tubes locally for $9 each.

it's black, tacky, but dries quickly and it adheres to glass, metal, rubber, etc.

Probably leaking from the windshield. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but thoroughly check it out...

I believe this can be repaired w/o great expense but I'm sure someone more knowledgable about this will chip in.
