Window Regulator Mechanism (Damaged) 200

Someone tried to break into my son's 86 244 by forcing down the passenger side window glass and now the window will not close properly (manual windows). I pulled of the door panel and it looks like the stamped sheet metal arms that hold the door glass and drag it up and down in the channels are bent. Does anyone have any experience in remove/replace this mechanism to offer some advice? Can it be done in a day? Any complications? I am thinking of course of stripping one from pick-a-part over at next half-off day....will drag son along and let him loose the skin on his forearms this time.

BTW...nothing was stolen but need to fix before the floors rustout on THAT side of the car too (groan).

Cliff

Window Regulator Mechanism (Damaged) 200

It's an easy repair. You'll see once you're in there.
Only a few 10mm nuts and bolts holding the whole thing to the door- it's all pretty well accessible. Hopefully the metal frame on the window bottom is not broken or tweaked. This can separate from the window, and is the more common problem in 240 windows. At the dealership I worked at, we saved a bunch of 240 door window glass for just this reason. :)
The door disassembly is pretty easy, the main trick being to turn the door handle upright to pull it out of the top socket in the door once the screws are removed. All the other parts unsnap or unscrew to remove. I can disassemble a 240 door in about 10 minutes, down to the point where I can get at that regulator. The window pivot clips will make sense once you remove one. They spring over the end of a pin, and slide off. Save the extras from the junkyard, along with the rest of the door hardware, you'll always need something. I bet they won't ask more than $20 for this, and most places would probably charge $10 for a manual winder assembly.
Good luck!
