What I like about my Volvo . . . ? 700

It's a 86 740 turbo with 171K that I bought just about a year ago. And, besides the body style (which I always liked), the white wheels, the straightforwardness of the controls and dash -- not to mention the Brickboard members who have helped me tremendously in learning and maintaining it -- what I like most is when the turbo needle just starts touching the yellow and the acceleration forces me back in my seat.

Lucky you....
My 1986 740T is so slow, I measure its speed with calendar.
Even steam rollers are passing me...
I have NEVER driven a more sluggish and lazy car.

Hmmmm....That doesn't sound right. My 740T has never been what I would consider slow...

This is getting close to bragging :) unheard of here?
I can make no such claims - my poor b21a/240 just gets me where I'm going, every time, for days at a time if need be.

No I am not bragging. When I first acquired the car, on the drive home from the P/O the turbo blew. Oil smoke followed me 5 miles down the interstate, and you can imagine my thoughts as I pulled up in front of my house with my "new car". I've since replaced the turbo, turbo hoses, engine wiring harness, fuel pressure regulator, distributor, distributor cap/rotor/wires, idle air control valve, coolant temperature sensor, spliced some wires on the wiring harness that literally melted en route to Kansas from Maryland, bought new 195-60/15 tires, replaced O/2 sensor, distributor bracket, flame trap, had it towed four times, stitched up a seam-tear in the rear seat, fought with a stubborn passenger/side rear door for 6 months (finally got it open just this past week), replaced manual crank handle on sunroof, replaced broken or ugly trim pieces, replaced two rear lens covers, engine mounts, switched over to Mobil 1, did transmission flush and fill with synthetic as well and got one speeding ticket and finally paid it (with no points).

All I'm asking for is a simple pleasure. If I ever buy a new car again, it'll likely be a Volvo.

Could be love . . . after I get the rotors turned, new brake pads on the front and figure out how to get this doggone brake light to finally go out and stay out, I'll let you know if it is real love, or just the small of rubber burning. ))smile((

I am pretty pleased that it is the non critical plastic and electrical things that always seem to break too....Even when my headgasket belw, I was still able to drive home.
