now it runs, but poorly 200

b230f 2.4 sys. 1989 just put a 398 rebuilt head on it, and now this exists..

ok i got the thing running, idles lumpy and wont rev/backfires..

i checked tdc again all is well...dizzy is not 180 out either, flipped wires and checked it...

ok so i disconnected the AMM, and it ran better at idle, smooth as it should be. i think it went into limp mode because it got rich as can be...i plugged the amm back in while car was turned off and started, back to the old crappy runnings again. i took it off and looked to see how dirty it was, not really that bad looking, wires were all there, and the vane wasnt too bad either...had slight (and i mean slight) dirt on the vane...

but it wokred before i took the car apart for the head swap 3 weeks ago...wth is going on to me AAAAAA!!!! i need this car bad!!! holiday travles for the family, first time in 9 years to take the family home for xmas!!!!

check the timing of the top cam sprocket against the
crankshaft. With the crank at TDC, the punch mark on the
cam sprocket should line up with the line on the inner
timing cover - if it's 180 deg. out, rotate the crank a
full turn and try again.

Did you double check the timing belt?

Sounds like a big vacuum leak to me. If it's back firing and running rough it could be that. Have you removed a spark plug to inspect it? If it's clean and white it's running too lean, if it's black it's running too rich. Also double check the firing order on the spark plug wires.

Good Luck Searching...

Water to check for a vacuum leak? Never heard of using water for that? I use starting fluid VERY CAREFULLY!!! Spray a little on the hoses while the engine is at an idle and see if the idle speeds up. If you just changed the cylinder head you may have damaged the intake manifold gasket and there's where your vacuum leak is. Again have you pulled a spark plug to see if your running rich or lean? You should pull all of the plugs and see if they are all burning the same or if one or two are different.
