An ebay ad for an 84 makes a fairly outlandish (and typical) claim that "Electrical systems are in perfect working order", which in IMHO is impossible, the point being that further down, all claims are explicitly disclaimed:

"This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith."

Such a seller can say anything they want about their goods, anything, since it is all rendered meaningless by later language. You have to actively ignore these descriptions; it's almost like watching TV commercials. Here in Ontario we get ads about owning the top of the line vehicle apparently for the pretax monthly lease fee.

Yeah, well, sleazy advertising, but not impossible. Everything
electrical in my 240 (except the A/C, which is a lack-of-freon
problem, not an electrical one) works just fine, so far, and the car
had 175k miles on it (knocks on plastic ;).

I like the ebay ads that'll say something like:" This car has only 300k miles on it, which is nothing for a 240. It'll go another 300k with no problems."

People just don't think before they write that junk.

I like the ones that describe a 240 with 200K+ miles as "rare."

Can't disclaim liability for fraud though. The problem is, with an 84, your damages wouldn't be worth the cost of a lawsuit and the seller is probably judgment proof even if you could recover your attorney fees and costs.
