ok, so i have just replaced that speed sensor on the block between the bell housing of the transmission, and the head (it is 14 deg outside). i checked, as precaution, the 2 fuses that had fuel pump in the description...# 11 and 25A, IIRC. then i went to the basement of my apartment building and did my special dance to get the spirits going.

i go outside, put the key in...start rotating...i do not hear the fuel pump whirring...keep turning...cranking, cranking, cranking, but no running.

time for further investigation.

You must determine if you have spark.
Pull the coil wire off the dist cap and place near a ground- don't hold it, and don't have it touching metal, just leave 1/8 inch gap or so to the car body.
Crank engine and observe spark. Strong blue white spark?
If so, check timing belt- open oil cap and have someone crank the engine- does the cam rotate in there? With crank triggered ignition, it can make spark even with a broken timing belt.
If that's ok, move on to the fuel pump relay. Replace that or resolder it.
If there's no spark you'll have to again check the crank sensor, and then the ignition computer.

this is great. you guys are very helpful!! i am a very mechanical person: nut, bolts, making adaptors, finding ways to reach things, but when it comes to electrics and the way things work as aresult of others working or not working, i feel very nervous and doubtfull.
im going to have to check all that tomorrow, since it will be daylight, and above 15 deg F.
