Harmonic balancer in one hour. No way. 200

Well, a few complications. It was a B230FT in a 740, it's 25 F now and wasn't much warmer when I was trying to do it in the driveway this afternoon. Some idiot rounded the rear A/C tensioner nut and I had to go to the hardware store and get a new nut (after removing the whole bracket and going after it with the bench-vise)

But. it's done. People in the 700 forum told me to worry about that wobble I saw a few weeks back and stop driving it. I'm glad I did, the old pulleys spun on the balancer easily and a bunch of crescent shaped pieces of rubber fell off the thing when I took it out. Here's a tip. Always have a half dozen accessory bushings on hand when doing this type of stuff. I always find a bunch of worn out ones and was glad to be able to pop in new ones.

Thanks to everyone who responded to B.C.'s post a while back. I got the little slot lined up correctly and used the rope trick to bolt and unbolt it. Who needs a manual when you've got the Brickboard?

Oh yeah 2.5 hours with constant trips inside to warm up, plus a trip to the hardware store.

Merry Christmas Brickheads!

Bob, you are a resourceful guy. I'm glad you checked out that wobble; probably saved you a radiator and who knows where that would have happened.

Off topic, but since you pointed out I went about the small clock dissassemly the hard way, by cutting the housing instead of peeling the bezel, I tried one using your suggestion. It rolled back on quite nicely, really, whether hidden by the escutcheon or not.

But back to the topic, I was wondering why, with a volvo farm close at hand, would you go to hardware store (which I picture as not being a 10-minute trip) to fetch an M8 locknut? Or was that what it was... Now my little collection all runs, so I'm loathe to make one a temporary donor if it can be avoided, but just running out for anything costs an hour.

Your description of the cold has me hurrying to finish this response so I can put a sweater on. Brrrr.

See, out here in the west, we've got a little different aspects of distance than from those in the more civilzed world. I was working on the car where my tools were, that is my appliance repair shop, which is 10 miles from my home and 15 miles from my Volvo farm. For some reason, the hardware store is only 1 mile from where I was working on the car so the choice was obvious. This trip, 1 mile equals 1 stop sign and one trafic light, 15 minutes round trip max. Though I do loathe to spend $.040 on a M8 nut (locknut? whoops).

Glad you found my clock suggestion helpful! We've got the Earth stove fired up and I've gotten the chill out of my bones by now. Eggnog anyone?
