Ignition Control Units, one size fits all? 200 1989

I believe I have the Bosch EZ-116K ignition system. I'm wondering how generic the ignition control unit is across chassis numbers or equipment options. For example, if I purchase a rebuilt or scrap unit do I need to be concerned about compatibility with my specific equipment configutation?

The EZ 116K was used on 240 Volvo's for '88-93. The one's that were used for 740's and 940's are different, but you should be OK with one from a 240 of those years. You need to specifically find the one from a car that has the diagnostic module under the hood on the left fenderwall if you want the diagnostic signals to function correctly.
I'm not absolutely sure, but the ign interface for the 240 ECU should be able to 'talk' to any other ign module, given the proper connection, so any one may work fine with a little wiring.

FYI, not an Air Mass Meter, an ign module

The 116, isn't that the Air Mass Monitor?

Any 116 will work with the '89. and many years on either side of '89

I think there are only two different number Air Mass Monitors for all 200 Volvo's (not positive)

Tony has a good looking '89. Thanks for the reply.

The EZ-116K I'm referring to is the ignition system classification that I am finding in the Haynes manual. The control unit in question is behind the passenger kick-panel and numbered 3-517-402.

Ok, I thought you may have misspoke. Yes the ICU's are very year specific.

Many people here can Chime in but it would be nice to have a written list as to what year ICU works with what year cars. Unfortunately they do overlap a bit.

The '89's Non turbo's had 561's That is the first digits are the same the last three digits are the critical ones. I believe the 591 can replace the 561 and is supposedly the better of the two.

I hope I answered the question.
