broken crank position sensor bracket - fix? 200 1989

The wire on the sensor was rotted, and also intermittent no start, so I go to replace it. The sensor was frozen in the mounting bracket and it didn't take much to break the bracket. One side on the casting was very thin (< 1 mm). Maybe a defect?

So now what is the fix? I have another bracket on an old engine, but it looks like I have to remove the bell housing to get at the bolts. Is there another way?

Very unhappy camper today.

As always, thanks in advance. The advice here can't be beat.

Arthur,

Before you drop the tranny all is not lost I was able to fix the bracket by gluing it together with JD weld. It has been holding for 4 years now. Worth a shot good luck
