broken crank position sensor bracket - fix? 200 1989

The wire on the sensor was rotted, and also intermittent no start, so I go to replace it. The sensor was frozen in the mounting bracket and it didn't take much to break the bracket. One side on the casting was very thin (< 1 mm). Maybe a defect?

So now what is the fix? I have another bracket on an old engine, but it looks like I have to remove the bell housing to get at the bolts. Is there another way?

Very unhappy camper today.

As always, thanks in advance. The advice here can't be beat.
