I had the same problem on my '80 245 for a while.

I replaced the clutch cable.

DO NOT go cheap on this part. I did in the past, and it was a nightmare.

First, the after market cable was so bad that it was squeaky as hell, and it felt about 10 times heavier then the Volvo cable does.

The after market cable put so much pressure on the firewall that it actually PULLED THROUGH the firewall. I ended up having to weld washers to my firewall to regain support.

After all of that, the damn cable snapped on me. This was all within about a year.

I finally broke down and bought the $100 Volvo cable from the dealer. I put it on, and it's a world of difference. The car shifts PERFECTLY now. It's smooth as ever, and there is no squeaking at all!

I realize it's 3 times the price of that after market cable, but it's worth every penny.

Save your self the headache and do this job the right way.

Good luck!

If it squeaks all the time when the clutch is pushed in (as opposed to when you're moving the pedal), it's probably the throwout bearing. Ignore it, or pull the transmission and replace the bearing (and clutch disc, since you're in there already).

it's just the pedal itself not the throwout bearing. it's not easy getting in there where the cable goes in and out with the clutch pedal. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET SOME KIND OF LUBRICANT I THERE BUT THERE IS JUST SO MANY WIRES AND STUFF ALL OVER THE PLACE. i'LL TRY AGAIN TOMORROW OR SATURDAY.

Spray some WD40 along the area. A bit smelly but if the squeek goes you know where to lube.

It's probably squeaking where the cable is going into the housing. Get up under the pedal and try lubing it with some white lithium grease. Don't be surprised if it takes a while for the squeak to go away. You might have to lube it a couple times and work the pedal a lot before the squeak goes away. You also might want to put a couple of drops of household oil on some of the other moving parts.

While you're there it would be a good time to check you clutch pedal free play and adjust it if it's out of spec.

I'll get underneith where the pedal is and check it out. I'll see about lubing the area up as suggested and see what it does. i do know it's out of speck, I'll let you know what happens, thanks for the info.

I've been having a hard time getting throught to the clutch cable connection wherer my pedel is due to all the wires. I'll probably work on it this evening and see about greasaing the entrance to the cable and see what happens. Can i buy an origional clutch cable from IDP or would they just have a aftermarket??
