wireharness 87 740 turbo 700

I replace the original wireharness on my son's 87 740 turbo wagon from a used one I picked up from DaveB It all went together OK taking all of 6 hours but now the car won't start. It ran fine before the transfer. I mailed Daev and he was nice enopugh to give me a few suggestions of things to check but it still wont run. It's getting a good spark at the plug wires. The fuel pumps are kinkking in as the car cranks over. The sparkplugs are bone dry leading me to believe that the injectors aren't getting a signal. I checked all the connections and thier proper wire pattern and they all seem fine. Any suggestions at this point would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks Rich

Although you shouldn't have had the Knock Sensor disconnected since it is in a different harness, you can swap the Knock Sensor wiring connector with the Coolant Temperature Sensor wring connector. An engine which has those connectors swapped will probably not start, just ask me how I know.

If I remember correct (IIRC),
The 3-pol TPS (Throttle position sensor switch) connector
can easily be switched with the
3-pol IAC (Idle Air control) connector.
Make sure they are correct !

good luck

Thanks for the suggestion on the possible switch between the TPS and the IAC. I was just working on it for another couple of hours without any luck. I pealed the boots back and the color code for the wires that Dave gave me were correct for the two. When the ignition swith is on I can feel the IAC humming like a small motor. I don't know if that means anything. Still squnked!

Thanks

Rich

Had the same exact problem with an 87na. Turned out that the knock sensor and (I can't rem exactly what other connector, but in the fuel system) were the same connector. They were switched.
I had bought the car as such and it took me over 2 months to figure it out.

Not certain if the connectors are the same on the FT models or not, but worth a look.

Well, tell us what Dave said so we'll have some idea what you've already looked at!

I have'nt heard back from Dave since my second attempt to reach him but I did what He told me to thus far, here it is:

Hi Rich,
Assuming the car ran before you started the harness swap, somewhere
along
the line either a connector is not getting full current or two
connectors
are swapped (it happens). The way to trouble shoot this is to pull a
connector and pry up the rubber boot. Check that the wire colors match
the
diagram I sent and also check that they are in the correct order. You
will
need to go through the connections and double check that they are
solidly
connected. Also you may need to pull connectors off and check that the
small metal prong inside hasn't fallen inside. Also on the 8-pin gray
connectors, check those connections too to see if both are solidly
connected
and to make sure there isn't a pin that has backed out.

Non-harness related... does the fuel pump run when the engine cranks?
Dave

Well, Dave's right, as usual.
What did you find when you checked out what he said?
Do the injectors have power through the resistor pack and the Radio Supression Relay?
Have you looked at the FAQ?
