89 244. No headlights to taillight light up. 200

Hi everyone:

I just brought home a real nice 89. Wonderful shape. Was checking her out and find no headlight or taillight burn. It is still daylight so I can't tell in cluster lights come on. Fuse panel fuses a little corroded but not too bad. Haven't pull switch yet. No reported problems by previous 1 owner. Have owned 3 240's in early 80's. Is there a lighting main relay? Am getting back into Volvo's but haven't got my new Bible or a SM. Any thoughts?

Steve

Ps. Flash to pass works. And daytime running position works.

As noted check and clean all the fuses, and check this headlight system relay down by your feet on the firewall:

Thanks for the info. I took the relay apart and it was filled with ants. Dead ones. Cleaned it out and got my lights. Thanks

Flash to pass works, a good clue. Next clue is whether the any corner markers work in parking light switch position.

Suspect the headlight switch itself, as the flashers don't go through it.

There is a relay for headlights (at least in the 1986-1988 240s) but what it does is prevent the headlights from coming on with the ignition key not in Position II.

Also, bulb failure warning system relay is in circuit for rear (not front) marker lights, and low beam headlights. Flasher is high beams.

Give all the fuses a spin in their holders to remove oxidation. Then check lights after dark, see what's hot and what's not.

Good Luck,

Bob
