How the heck do I replace the brake light bulb in trunk window tail light housing in 1991 940 GLE wagon? 900

Please don't tell me to look in the FAQ.

I did already. There's one line and it's lame.

The housing slides onto the wagon trunk window and is held in place by two screws. I unscrew and slide off and the housing will hang by two wires, yellow and black. There are several pieces of plastic, and the bulb receptor and I haven't a clue how to remove the bulb or bulb receptor to replace the brake light bulb. I just got the wagon and I don't have a Haynes or Chilton manual. VLVworld is not helpful.

Please be as detailed as you can. e.g. to the level where if you are telling someone to remove a battery terminal from a post, you mention that you use a 10mm combination wrench to do so. Thanks in advance.

If I sound churlish, it's because I just spent a s---load of money to replace the entire timing belt assembly. I'm not a DIY mechanic. And it's raining.

If I remember correctly:

Slide a screw driver between the bulb cover and lamp housing and pry it out. It seemed like the plastic might break with the force that I was using but thankfully it didn't... do the same on the other side. Can't remember how the clips looked.

If you have an owner's manual there should be a picture in there with how to remove the cover.

Thanks, Bean.

I'll look at it again in the AM. It looks like that this particular high mount center light is an aftermarket part constructed differently from the one most would assume I have. I have a defunct 1987 245 DL wagon and that one has a high mount center light on the trunk window that slides down.

This one...slides over....what I ought to do is open up the other one and see if it's different.

I'll continue on spook's thread one up.

Thanks again.
