Just today the oil indicator light at the Dash came on only at low revs.
Keep the oil topped up cause have a few leaks so thats not the problem.
Does this mean problem with oil pump/pressure.
Any advice appreciated...

Further symptoms and update on post from yesterday.... oil indicator light coming on appears to be related to engine temp because the light stays out until the engine temp warms to running temp and then flickers some at lower revs and then goes out when revs increased.

John, thanks for your advice will purchase an oil sending unit ($27C from Volvo) and install tomorrow.

Hi Peter
It could be the oil sensor (sending unit) is bad,or the wire that connects to it is rubbing on the engine. If the wire is good,try to change the oil sensor first and see what happens.It is located near the oil filter.Hope this helps and keep us posted.

John, thanks for advice have checked the wire and indeed most of insulation has broken down right back to where it enters the main engine harness. It appears that I need a new engine harness because other wire insulation is breaking down. Cleaned off all old insulation and taped the wire and re-connected to the oil pressure sending unit and the light at dash now is out when running. As I said I need a new engine harness now. Any thoughts knowledge on where to obtain a harness, assume the Volvo replacement harness is an exorbitant price.

Hi peter.
I am glad you found your problem but i wish it was the sensor it would be less time consuming.Anyway,i am sorry i d'ont know where is the best place to get a harness.I would post a new message here about that and i am sure you will get a response,also while waiting for your answer do a (search) on this forum for this subject and you will get lot of ideas and tips.I read through posts before that you can get a good used one for lot cheaper than new and lot of people did here on the board.
I wish i could be more helpful,if you need anything post back.
