Further symptoms and update on post from yesterday.... oil indicator light coming on appears to be related to engine temp because the light stays out until the engine temp warms to running temp and then flickers some at lower revs and then goes out when revs increased.

John, thanks for your advice will purchase an oil sending unit ($27C from Volvo) and install tomorrow.
