Lubrication and another question 200

Hello, folks:

What's the best lubricant for window mechanisms? I'm replacing manual with electric and it's a good time to lubricate the stuff.

I'm also replacing a heater blower motor (what a pain) and there's a connection behind the instrument panel I can't identify. A cable plugs in on the right side of the panel, goes to a black box with two wires that go to a blue connector. Whatever it was wasn't hooked up to anything when I took stuff apart (except for being plugged into the instrument panel) and I don't know what it does. 'anybody know?

Thanks for the help.

Jim Hampton

Jim, I agree with scorch--white lithium.

The cable/black box setup is the service reminder light trigger. About every 30k mi it shorts the two wires together which causes the light in the cluster to come on. At that time the owner's book says to take the car to the dealer for a check of the O2 sensor system, and to have the light reset.

The universal recommendation here is to disconnect the cable from the back of the cluster (back of your speedo), as its drag is a probably cause of premature odometer gear failure in the speedo head.

Use white lithium grease for window channels and gears.
