Able to start (w/ jumper wire at fuse panel) but not idle narrowing it down 200 1989

This was the advice given to me by Bruce young (lucid):
"If you are sure the spark is OK, you can by-pass most of the FI system (including the 25A fuse and the Fuel relay), by using a jumper wire at the fuse panel. If it starts when "hot-wired" like this, the jumper probably bypassed a Fuel System fault.

Here's how to use the jumper wire (alligator clips on each end):
Connect one end of the jumper to the "hot side" (Left contact) of any fuse 6 thru 10.
Connect the other end to the Left contact of fuse 4.
Pumps will run immediately.
Try starting."

I was able to coax it to start and run like this for a few seconds, but it wasn't going to idle (not sure if it should be able to like this).
So my question is: How do I narow it down from here?
Thanks again, I wouldn't have made it this far alone.

To check if the fuel system (pump) relay is bad you jump the 2 fuel pumps on the left side of the fuse panel. The fuses are either 5 -6 or 5-7, look on the fuse panel cover to ID the in-tank pump and the main fuel pump. If it runs jumpered the relay need replacing or resoldering.

If the engine starts and immediately stops disconnect the AMM connector (key OFF). If the engine idles fine with the connector off you likely need an AMM.

Make sure the blades of the 25 AMP fuse and holder is not corroded and the connection to the battery is clean and secure.

While you are jumping the fuel pump relay wires, you might also check that the ground to the plug is actually plugged in. That left me wondering for a long time. Good luck and happy bricking.
