Able to start (w/ jumper wire at fuse panel) but not idle narrowing it down 200 1989

This was the advice given to me by Bruce young (lucid):
"If you are sure the spark is OK, you can by-pass most of the FI system (including the 25A fuse and the Fuel relay), by using a jumper wire at the fuse panel. If it starts when "hot-wired" like this, the jumper probably bypassed a Fuel System fault.

Here's how to use the jumper wire (alligator clips on each end):
Connect one end of the jumper to the "hot side" (Left contact) of any fuse 6 thru 10.
Connect the other end to the Left contact of fuse 4.
Pumps will run immediately.
Try starting."

I was able to coax it to start and run like this for a few seconds, but it wasn't going to idle (not sure if it should be able to like this).
So my question is: How do I narow it down from here?
Thanks again, I wouldn't have made it this far alone.
