Blinking Transmission Lights but already replaced PNP 900

So i replaced the PNP switch in my 960 and yet the W,S,E are still blinking and there was no change at all in the way the car drives. Still locks up in 3rd gear killing accel and bogging the motor, and the hsift from 1st to 2nd seems like it slips.

Any help?

Blinking Transmission Lights but already replaced PNP 900 1991

Hi!
I own a Volvo 960 with AT and had 2 times the same situation where the orange arrow in the dashboard and the the W and E lamps behind the W-S-E selector buttons where flashing.
I had also problems to bring the car back to my carport as it runs like in wintermode on the way home. cardrivers behind me must got the impression I was sleeply or drunk.
A Volvo mechanic gave me the hink to take off positive battery connection and let the car stay batteryless during the nigth.
Next morning after reconnecting the battery I could start the engine without flashing and drive the car normally.
regards
Willi DK

The code you got was for the pnp switch? This was your only code? Did you read and erase the codes after replacing the pnp switch?

Chris

there was no code that was being displayed at all its just been blinking and i assumed it was the pnp switch from all the post here about blinking tranny lights

Well assuming probably wasn't the right way to go, but all in all, the pnp switch is a good assumption, considering... What year is it? If it is pre 96 we can read the codes manually and go from there. A TP sensor will set a tranny code, the mode selector can set a code, a solenoid in the tranny can set a code, a vehicle speed sensor (signal or lack of) can set a code...you get the idea...

Also, just as someone just mentioned, you can unhook the battery and erase the computer memory, but it won't help you with learning what actually caused the code.

Chris
