I'm looking to improve the exhaust system on my B28 equipped 262. Does anyone have any experience upgrading the exhaust for a B28? I don't want to lose any low end performance. Has anyone put the IPD Sport exhaust on a V6? Anyone tried true duals or have an opinion on such a setup for a B28? Would larger diameter down pipes be necessary or would the stock ones still allow a performance gain with a cat-back system? Thanks

I have been playing with the idea of upgrading the exhaust on my 79 264GL for some time now. I was going to go with a Turbo Muffler in place of the stock front muffler (slight modification for the hangers needed) and then routing a single pipe under the axle where it would kick out into two tailpipes exiting either end of the car. I would have my uncle's shop bend the piping from the Turbo Muffler back but everything else is stock and should be a simple job for any decent mufler shop. As far as the 79 262C I'm going to keep her as stock as possible since I would love to enter here in a Stock Class event in the future.

Quick question, does your 78 262C still have the original engine in it or did you swap in a B28 to replace the old B27? The 76-79 260's that had V6's came with the B27, all other years came with a B28. I was just curious. Take Care!

Julio, I replaced the B27 with a B28 from a 1980 262C. Significant improvement as the B27 was losing power once the cam clatter started and the B28 had 30,000 miles on it.

Where did you get your E-codes? How do you like them? Did you do an upgrade to your wiring for them? Thanks, Rick

Nice to see that you found a low mile B28 for the 262C. My 79 264GL is on its second B27F and it came with 60K miles and has been running good thus far.

As far as the E-Codes I bought them off a fellow brickboard that lives near by me and I love them. They really do a good job of sending a clear-cut light pattern on the road ahead of you. Also the H1 bulbs are stronger than the old sealed beam bulbs so it does a better job of lighting up the road. I know if I decide to change the E-Code setup I will try out the CIBIE E-CODE Quad Sealed Beams that everyone is talking about since I hear they are as good, if not better thatn the E-Code setup I'm currently running.

I have not upgraded the wiring for the E-Codes yet but I'm planning on getting the IPD Headlight Wiring Harness Kit in order to run the E-Codes off the battery for more light output. But for now I'm happy with the way they look and the improvement in lighting that they have given me so I will keep using them the way they are. Take Care!

The IPD system can be easily created by picking up a 240 Turbo muffler from your local brick store and bringing it to the nearest custom exhaust shop and having them put it in. The whole excercise including a high-flow FlowMaster cat cost me $450 CDN. I used to work with a guy who used a Turbo muffler with a V8 set up with great results so it will definetly handle a V6.

The "turbo" set up is about the most you're going to get out of a Volvo exhaust. The biggest difference I find is throttle response, but it yeilds about 15-20 top end hp out of a 4cyl car, so the numbers should be similar for a V6 model. There is a slight noise difference at around 3000 rpm plus, it's far from annoying and who cares once you're up there. The car will also sport a nice, throaty idle as well.

Any 2 ot 7 series Volvo's I've seen and heard with those universal so-called "performance" mufflers sound like farts going down the street.
