Loss of coolant sensor 900 1992

Hi!
I have a 1992 Volvo 960. The car is in pretty good shape - engine is very clean and the car was meticulously maintained by the previous owner. I love the car. It is driven by my son, who asked for a Volvo.

Anyway, the Loss of Coolant idiot light started coming on at the first sign of winter. It would come on each morning until the car would warm up a bit, then it would go off. The coolant system is not leaking and there's no problem with cooling - the car is running nice and cool, exactly where it did back in the heat of the fall here in KY.

The idiot light now stays on 24/7/365... and still the temp gauge is reading just fine, there are no coolant leaks, the system is completely full, etc. Where is this sensor, and how do I replace it? I'm guessing this is a dealer-only part?

Any info or advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Coolant Loss Sensor snaps into a socket in the bottom of the Coolant Reservoir. The socket is part of the reservoir, and it is sealed. You won't lose any coolant when the sensor is remove. New sensors are $19 at FCP Groton, and probably not a lot more if you have a dealer close.
