REAR TAIL LIGHTS 200

HI,

I have one driver side rear tail light out. The running light. Can't even get a voltage reading at the bulb-socket. Other three lights work fine (reverse, brake, turn signal).

Indiana cop pulled me over because of missing light one night. OBVIOUSLY THEY ARE REALLY BORED IN INDIANA....

How best can I diagnose and fix this? Thanks.

Larry

Take the Bulb socket off and see if you get voltage at the Circuit board that the socket plugs into. If you are getting voltage there then you may want to run some solder onto those bare copper traces to help the connection.

I did that to mine just as a preventative measure. The copper is only about 2 mils thick on these circuit boards. A very thin layer of solder probably more than doubled that thickness.

If it's fuse 15, the Left front parking light will also be out, along with the rear plate lights as Bob mentions. Fuse 16 feeds the Right front and rear lights, plus the panel lighting rheostat.

You don't give the car's year, but the white plastic connector at the light unit is a likely suspect.

Sometimes pulling it back just a fraction helps (for a while), as does working it off and on a few times.

If the circut boards are old you might want to replace them as a Preventitive measure. Spent to much time adjusting the connection on the back only to have it fail on the first bump. And anothe PM is the liscense plate lights as mentioned in prior post. My wires were seriously rotted, it's an easy fix.
Found out the hard way, got pulled over on a Friday night at 11 because of the plate lights being out, a 50 cent bulb is going to cost me $1,500 minimum, if you know what I mean!

If the licence plate lights are also out, it has to be Fuse No. 15 - second from bottom.
