I've done the auto to stick swap in a 740 and it is just great. The clutch assembly is a bit of a pain because you are a contortionist on your back wrenching upwards but it is doable not difficult. The hydraulic clutch is smooth and light compared to my cabled 245. The 740 is just so much sportier with a stick and the round runner exhaust manifold and mitsui td04 turbo- very street friendly for up to 5000 rpm's= a smiley mild blast. A Dawes device and ridding yourself of the middle muffler helps zip. Anti sway bars improve handling. It's really a different car. Mine feels sporty, edgy even with good tires Yokohama db2's or Kumho Ecsta ASX's. Resale? You probably will get more for the fun factor. I mean have you priced bona fide sport sedans out there lately. You can convert your 940 and have a truly enjoyable, unique ride for a very reasonable price. Don't listen to the naysayers (I waffled for months before committing- since the automatic transmissions from Volvo are very good). I'm 53 years old and I still love a stick. I have two 740 sticks- one I built to sell and now I am keeping for fun. I'm planning on converting another soon. You won't regret the ride or the time spent constructing it. I learned and suddenly you become experienced! If you love Volvo RWD's, go for it. It is a great value and is hard to duplicate with the newer models. It's the last glorification of the venerable red block cars.
